“If they cannot learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn.” (Dr. O Ivar Lovaas)

Presently, no complete treatment has been known for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). However, there are several management and intervention programs by which autism can be treated symptomatically in young children. Every child with ASD has got unique sets of abilities and strengths regarding their behavior, social communication and cognitive functioning. That is why, these intervention plans are multi-disciplinary in nature. It means these programs are of different nature. They may involve parents, care-givers and teachers. With the help of these programs, children with autism can improve in daily functioning, involving cognitive and social functioning so they can take part in community projects like other children.

Before we move on to the detail, it must be remembered that children with ASD can be ill and sick like other children, they can get injured. Therefore, proper medical and dental exams must be the definite part of these intervention programs. Often, the child is disturbed due to the health condition, not to confuse it with autism. For example, when a child is knocking his head against a wall, it might be due to he is feeling headache or ear ache and not because of Autism.
