Four Types of Parenting Approaches- Effect on Children’s health of each approach
There are four types of parenting approaches that are commonly used when raising children- Authoritative, Authoritarian, Permissive, and Neglectful/Uninvolved parenting styles. Psychologists from throughout the world, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, agree that the most effective parenting approach is authoritative. The lowest results for kids are associated with a neglectful or uninvolved parenting style.
According to a 2010 US study that polled over ten thousand school-age children, authoritative parenting was the most common parenting style, followed by authoritarian parenting.
Parenting approaches are significant because the way parents engage with their kids affects their development — emotional, physical, and behavioral — for the rest of their lives. Let’s examine the four different parenting philosophies and how they affect kids.
